Braided Cable Scarf

This cabled scarf is a wonderful blending of complex-looking (but easily knitted) cables with simple warmth. The 5 stranded braided cable in the center, flanked by a small mock-cable on each side make for an elegant scarf that will grace the neck of whoever the recipient may be.


Yarn: 3-4 oz of hand spun sport weight or any weight to make a larger or smaller scarf.
Needles: US Size 5 (3.75 mm) straight needles, cable needle, large crochet hook for fringe attachment.
Gauge: Center braid on the sample was 1.5" wide, and the whole scarf was just over 3" wide without blocking.
Notions and Extras: stitch markers (optional). Pins for blocking (also optional). A book or something about 6" tall for wrapping fringe (I used my checkbook).
Finished Size: about 3.25" wide and 6 feet long without fringe, 7 feet with fringe.
