IT LIVES!!!!!!!
Hello all,
I have some good news! My online store is up and running. I am now able to take Money Orders and Checks in payment for patterns (hopefully non-paypal Credit Cards early next year). There are still a few bugs to work out, so I’d like your help with that. Please tell me if anything looks funny, especially the upper category navigation bar. The links seem to be NOT in the bar for some people. Please go take a look and then if you see something funny, let me know the following either by comments or e-mail:
1. What web browser you are using.
2. What screen resolution
This would help me immensely! And how about this to sweeten the deal. If you give me feedback on the storefront, I’ll enter you in to a drawing for some sock yarn, don’t know which skein yet, but it’ll be good :) And really, how easy is that!
I’ll post a real post tomorrow, complete with FO’s (mine and others’)
Thanks,
M

Hey there, I’m using Firefox, screen res of 1440×900, and when I click on the links on the sidebars, they grey out and are hard to see.
It’s looking good!

Came to pick up the chickin recipe and I found your cool new store. Feedback on the store: I love it.
One thing I would change is the color of the font after it has been activated on the left-hand navigaton bar, it turns gray and you can’t see it.
I used IE. Resolution: 1024.
Congratulations on your new store! It is awesome.

Hi there. I like the new store, very sleek and sophisticated. The upper nav bar came up fine. I use Firefox with a res of 1280×768.
I do notice what the two above me said, that the links are darker when clicked on. However, I can still see them without difficulty.
Congratulations!

Hey Mim! It looks terrific. I’m using Firefox with a screen res of 1024X768.

Hi Mim! Looks like you haven’t had feedback from a Safari user yet, so here goes. My screen resolution is 1024X768. After reading your other comments, I did notice that the clicked links looked grey but for me were still easily readable. I didn’t even notice it. I did notice that when the pattern are listed the three info titles (product image, name and price) were not “in line” with the bar that runs all the way across. They sat as separate blocks just overlapping the bottom half of the other bar. The first block, product image, looked different than the other two and was just language without a background. Hope this helps :)

Oh, it’s beautiful!
Only a couple nitpicky notes:
Under “Privacy Notice,” there is a sentence that reads: “If you are interested in joining an e-mail list to be notified of updates or new products, click here.” But there’s no link.
The “Discount Coupon” link still has the sample text.
But otherwise, it’s great! Congratulations!
(I’m using Firefox 1.5.0.6, with a res of 1024×768…not that it matters.)

I’m on Firefox on OSX 1280×1024 and things mostly look fine. I can see the greyed links ok.
The information on shipping also mentions returns, but you don’t address that in the text. and the text for discount coupons is still generic. as the patterns are all 6 or 6.50, perhaps the gift certificates ought to be for those amounts?
the blue bar that has the three columns called product image, item name and price looks a little funky. the item name and price are links (for sorting the list) and they show up a little skewed vertically from the rest of the bar, and the “product image” is in plain text and doesn’t match.
overall, very nice, looks like a lot of work!

Congrats on getting the new store up! I really like the look. Only thing I noticed is a broken image link over the logo on the page header. I’m using IE 6 at 1024 x 768.

I’m viewing with Windows Explorer and everything looks great to me. All links work just fine. Well done, you!

I am using Firefox on an imac at 1024×768.
On the home page, at the top there is a bar that has Home and login in it, then there is a logo and under the large logo box are the words Free Patterns, Lace, etc. Those words are not in a box or bar. They look a little scrunched in between the greyish bar and the rest of the page.
When I clicked on the links for free patterns and patterns to buy, the words Product image, Item name, and Price were not exactly sitting in the bar that they appeared to go with. The words Free Patterns and so on that were below the logo box are now shifted slightly up so that they are halfway into the grey bar.
When I did a search for shawls, the words Item Name and Price were now in their proper place in the bar, but Product image was absent. The words Free Patterns, etc were now completely in the grey bar. This leads me to believe that the text is shifted down on some pages but not others.
I really like the color scheme and the logo box. All the links that I normally look for when purchasing something online were present. You’ve done a great job!

I’m using Firefox and it all worked well for me. I did see all of it, too. As for resolution, it’s the highest, just not sure what the numbers are.
Looks great!

My resolution is 1600×1200 and I’m using Internet Explorer. I like the site! I like there is some redundancy in the categories. I do get a little red x in your logo, between the M and the F, on the left.
Someone somewhere mentioned a wings of the moth shawl – is that in progress?

Hi, love the site! I’m using MSN, 1024 x 768. Couple of tiny things: when you bring up the gift certificates, the dollar sign is on line 1 but the amount wraps to line 2. Also when you search and sort by product description, the order is reverse alpha. But I can see everything just fine, nothing is dim or dark. Very nice!

Hi, I’m using Firefox at 1440 x 900 on a MacBookPro. The “product image”,”item name”, and “price” sort buttons are not in line with the teal bar they should be in. Once I click on a “more info” it becomes almost invisible. Otherwise, the site looks great! I really like your color scheme and your four-square logo–very classy and distinct.

Hi. Looks *really* good. Just a couple of minor “glitches” that I found. I’m using Firefox1.5.0.6 on a PC, with resolution of 800×600.
On your bottom nav bar there is a link for “Action DVDs”. and default text appears in “Shared”. Intermittantly, the image of the Gift Certificate in the side nav “New Items” does not have the grey-blue background appear. The GC image shows horizontally in a white box on the grey-blue background. It happened on several screens, but there was no consistency to zero in on.
On the “Toys” screen there is a link to “free patterns” with a blank image that says “no image available”.
I had no issues with any colors, and I know my crappy monitor shows things darker than they should appear.
All in all, the site looks GREAT!!!

Your store looks beautiful! I’m using the Mac Safari browers, and not sure of my resolutions, but it looks great :)

Your store looks great and the links work for me. I am using Safari 2.0.3 with a resolution of 1024 x 768. All the links seem to be working great!

Well done on the on-line shop. I hope it prospers.
I am using Firefox and not sure of the resolution. The site looks great.
Posted by: uaridi | August 14th, 2006 18:21
I am using Firefox 1.5.0.6 and my screen resolution is 1024 x 768.
In the lace section the text “Product Image” is darker, while the item name and price are paler. This is in the blue bar above the list of patterns. This seems to be happening in all pattern pages.
On the lace page the indenting of the description is inconsistent. The first few lines are OK but the text in the 5th line is right on the photo. You also have an orphan period in the Mountain Peaks shawl “feeling of the . beloved”.
For the free patterns you have the text “download” and a add to cart button. I’m not sure if the add to cart is necessary if you have the download link. I would also do something to emphasize the “download”, maybe a button.
On the main page for Blessing Socks in the description, it says, “which it turn”. I think you mean “which in turn”.
Also, a question. The page where you enter your billing information is this:
http://www.mimknits.com/shop/index.php?main_page=login
Should this be a secure page, e.g. https?
Also, at the bottom of the page there is a “shared” link in the blue bar. This brings up a page that talks about the format of the page:
“This link is a “shared” link between the Header, Footer and Sidebox.
The number on the order was set to 50 on all of the settings just for the sake of an easier notation on entering it.
The order can be the same or different for the three locations.
If you wanted to really get creative, you could also have this as part of a Chapter not related to the link order.”
Also, on the advanced search page the manufacturers are those of computers, or maybe cameras. There is nothing to do with knitting or yarn there.
In general, the text size seems to be small on the notes and descriptions.
In the shopping cart, at the side of the page the quantities are listed as “1ea.”, “2ea.”. I think just the quantity and a space would be better.
I generally don’t like that the add to cart button is at the very bottom of the pages.
I used to be a cartographer, and in my career spent a lot of time proof reading printed text. I’m sure it is obvious, but despite my criticisms in is a nice web site. I love your patterns.

I am using Internet Explorer, screen resolution of 1280 x 1024. It looks great, except whatever small picture/thing is supposed to show up in the MLF square is not showing up. I just get a little red x, instead. All the links are in the bar and everything else looks like it is where it should be. Great job!!

Looks good to me – I’m using Firefox on a Mac and have my preferences set to force a larger font size for accessibility. Often, this causes websites to apear very funky – not sot with yours. I had no problem navigating.
I can’t wait to try out the new store – I agreed to knit blessing socks for the minister who performed my niece’s christening. Sadly, he has very big feet…

The site looks great, the few small glitches have been mentioned. I would have the items selected by mouse turn yellow or chartreuse, I can read the gray but it doesn’t “speak” to me and say, “yes this is where to click”. I use AOL/IE at 1240×768 and everything is clear and sharp, the color scheme is very nice and the images come up quickly (I have DSL but can still tell when the site’s server is slow. I did notice that the headings “lace” and “shawls” have the same items, perhaps you could eliminate one of the headings or combine them until you have some patterns that only fit in one topic OR the other but not both.
I admire your courage in starting up your business – may all your headaches be small.

Your site is beautiful. I use Firefox 1024 x 768. I haven’t noticed any problems so far. Maybe you have them fixed by now.
Posted by: Barbp | August 14th, 2006 20:03
I viewed your site with Safari at 1024 x 768. Other than the problems noted above, I noticed a link in the blue bar at the bottom labeled “Action DVDs” which when clicked takes you to a page that says “Home” twice and “There are no products to list in this category.” Clearly something a little off there.
On the Gift Certificate FAQ–I’d expect a single page with all the questions (maybe with navigation links at the top that take you to each individual question, if it gets too long) rather than having to click on each link to see one answer at a time.
I do love the look of the site–the blue and gray colors are very soothing. And the navigation is very easy, with links both at the top and on the side.

Safari 1280 x 1024
Didn’t check the links but thought it looked good and easy to use.

Safari 1024×768. I noticed the same problem with the labels (”product image,” etc.) not lining up, and the fact that the image is missing for the category, when you go into one. On the other hand — yes, the ‘used’ links are gray, but are perfectly readable and I like the redundancy in categories — yes, all of your current shawls are both lace and shawls, but, this way, I can look at it either way! And you already have categories set up which may be useful in the future — people don’t like change, so you don’t want to change category names in the future (although adding new would be fine).

Using Internet Explorer Beta 7 with res of 1280×1024. Everything works and looks very nice. Great design. I also have the “no image” link in the logo part of the header. All rollovers are easily visible. The “visited links” in the Site Map area are a bit hard to see.
Very nice site. Best wishes in your endeavor. Hope you are wildly successful.

Firefox (for Mac), 1024×768. On the main page, your category listing (Free Patterns / Lace / Patterns to Buy…) appears slightly below the narrow light grey background box, but I suspect it’s meant to appear inside it. The Product Image / Item Name / Price buttons also don’t quite align with the background image, either. Everything else looks fine and seems to be clickable!

I’m using Safari on a Mac (no idea what my resolution is). The one thing I noticed just clicking around a bit is that when you look at a category — lace, for example — the headers at the top of the columns sort of fall just below where they should be (i.e., it looks like a little section of the horizontal stripe is below the rest of it).

I think the store looks great! I made the chicken last night, I think I used too much butter, but it tasted really good!

I’m using Mozilla Firefox, 1024×768. I get an unloaded graphic in the middle left of the banner, but aside from that everything seems fine. I like the layout, though I’d suggest changing the order in the patterns menu so that patterns to buy is under free patterns. It seems too that there’s some redundancy to the links, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Looks great!

Hi, I, too, see the links but they don’t seem to be located in the tool bar. I am using Netscape version 7.1 and my screen resolution is 1024 X 768.
Another thing that is a little funky is that once I’m displaying a pattern to buy (Eleanora socks, for example) I see a little photo of the socks and a bigger photo of the socks underneath (so far, so good). However, under the little photo is a link that says ‘larger image’. First, you may not need this because there is already a bigger photo of the socks below the link. Second, when I click on the ‘larger image’ link I get a pop-up window that doesn’t show the socks at all but just part of the background of the sock photo. I need to click on the Maximize button in the upper right hand corner of that pop-up window to actually see the socks in that window. If you really want this pop-up feature then you may want to program the pop-up to come up already maximized. Otherwise it looks great. Congratulations. Sue

Great site! I’m in internet explorer 6.0.28.whatever. The site looks perfect and the colors all show up fine for me. For some reason, though, this comment box I’m currently typing in likes to run off the edge of my screen.
One suggestion I would make, just because I’m anal, would be to have the tops of little shield-shaped boxes aligned from right to left. (Does that make sense?)
Oh, one thing – there’s a graphic between the M and the F in the title graphic that didn’t show.
Posted by: Carrie | August 15th, 2006 09:52
I think it looks great! Very nice and organized, and easy to find things.
I have only one suggestion. Although I love the photo of your Mountain Peaks shawl in the light, I would use a thumbnail that shows how it looks while you’re wearing it. The thumbnail you have up now doesn’t do it justice.
You’re going to add the braided cable scarf and the wedge bag, right? (I have both patterns and still want to knit them. One of these days!)
Posted by: Kim | August 15th, 2006 10:03
I like it! Ok, under Site Map, the last several links are still to sample text. I added a free pattern to my cart (Baby Socks) and didn’t have anything else in there, but was still prompted to enter billing information – maybe there could be a simplified form for someone who’s just getting a free pattern?
Posted by: Chris | August 16th, 2006 18:05
I’m using Safari and a resolution of 1680 x 1050.
I regularly use the enlarge text command so I can read things more easily. Far too many sites get messed up—te text and graphics run into each other—when I keep enlarging. Yours doesn’t, so thanks.

Windows, IE, 1024×768.
I like your site, and I don’t see any problems with it other than the odd spelling or grammatical error (e.g. “versitile” in the Seraphim Shawl description). I hope you do well with it.
