I think Spring is here

The tree pollen is out in full force (and my nose and sinuses won’t let me forget it), the bulb flowers are popping up their heads, and the days are turning progressively warmer. Today was the first day in at least 5 months that I’ve got outside with no sweater or coat, just a shirt, and been comfortable.

I find myself with thoughts of gardens and fresh produce, of leisurely strolls just to enjoy being outside. We’re heading into my very favorite time of year and I want to be savoring every moment. I always get rather dark and stagnant in the winter (although each winter has been a little better), so as the sun comes out and the days lengthen I try to peel back the layers of moroseness and ennui and feel the earth around me awaken. It’s amazing to be part of it. And to be so conflicted. I can feel it coming, even though it’s not here yet, and I savor the slow arrival and the minuscule changes. But I can’t wait… so I buy flowers and spend long periods just looking at them. At least now I have the ability to do them justice with pictures.

I’m thirsty for more! Show me your favorite harbingers of spring and come back here and leave a comment with a link when you have. I’ll draw a random comment for a yarn-y prize. Let me know about it by 5 pm MST on Tuesday, April 1st (this is not an April Fool’s Joke, I promise) and I’ll announce the winner, hopefully Wednesday.

I know how you feel – those end-of-winter blahs are hard to ditch. The lovely pictures you’re taking have to help!
Hmm, I already did this a week or so ago – does that count?

Just outside the window of my room in the house where I grew up was planted a bed of crocuses When spring was coming I would always peek out the window in the morning to see if they were out. Then I would declare throughout the house that it was spring!
When we got our house, you can be sure I planted crocuses and where? Outside my daughter’s window!

Where we live it is always the appearance of crocus flowers that mark the onset of spring. Here is a picture of our first one.

I took some shots outside over the weekend, for Easter. They are here. (One even has me wearing my Icarus! Does that count for bonus points? :p )
Your photos are lovely! Just one more example of why spring is my favorite season.

You are giving me a seriously bad case of camera envy. We have gorgeous blossoms on the trees, in our neighborhood and I’d love to be able to do them justice.

I love the ranunculus (spelling off?). Perfect for pictures on the blog. :)

my favorite harbinger of spring is the return of the turkey vultures. i just love watching them soar effortlessly, making great lazy spirals in the sky.
(sorry. no pix links)

Yay- I love how so many of us are posting our favorite spring shots. I did the same thing last week. :) http://alittleloopy.blogspot.com/2008/03/glimpses-of-spring.html
ps: the pollen is killing my allergies, too- guess there’s always a drawback. :p

What kind of flowers are the peony-looking ones? I am dying to know…

Well, here in Sydney it’s autumn :-)
And the harbingers – the sun is lower from the deck; I can walk to the park without panicking about sunscreen…
IN terms of leaves – mostly evergreen here, as far as I can see.
I do miss the early English spring, though.

I wish I could get all of them to bloom at the same time. I was going to show my hollyhock “bushes” but they’re still just huge green leaves -not much to look at.

Love the rununculas! I tried to have those for my wedding, but my otherwise amazing florist wasn’t able to get any, so I had some giant peonies instead. Beautiful!

Ironically, I just posted spring pictures on my blog. I love this time of year when things become green again.
